Frequently Asked Questions

What is it?

Multiply is an internship where you will learn how to be on mission in a city that desperately needs the Gospel by being fully immersed in the culture. You will be placed in a local urban ministry and serve alongside them. Along with serving others, you will be trained and equipped as a missionary by hearing from various pastors, missionaries, church planters, and injustice abolitionists who are experienced in urban ministry. You will also grow in learning how to make disciples and be on mission wherever you are in the context of community. As you serve, you will meet the spiritual, physical, and social needs of the people of NYC.

What will an intern do?

The short answer is learn to live your life on mission within the context of the city. As a part of that, you will serve alongside local churches, pastors and church planters to see and experience what it takes to spread Christ’s love and message of redemption to this city. With weekly Development Days, you will be trained to be a disciple-maker wherever you go. You will also keep an emphasis on the lost by helping to keep the ministry outwardly-focused. As an integral part of the ministry, you will be a part of that community of believers. You will also strengthen and encourage the ministry by being the hands and feet of Jesus. Our hope is that you will not only be developed as a missionary but that you may also consider leveraging your life in New York City for the gospel.

What are subway and food cost estimates?

To travel on subway and bus in New York you will need a MetroCard. It is up to you which one you purchase, however we suggest purchasing an unlimited monthly MetroCard which costs $127 (+$1 new fee card). A 7-day MetroCard costs $34, and a one-time ride costs $2.75. Food costs will vary depending on how much you eat out, however groceries are relatively inexpensive at Trader Joe’s (located on our block). Approximately $60 should be enough for weekly groceries.

What is the cost and when are my fees due?

The cost of the program that you’ll owe MNYBA is $1450. That covers your Housing and Program Fee. The $1,450 is due, at the very latest, by the first day of the internship.

How do I pay my fees?

There are two ways to pay: The first is online, by clicking here and selecting MultiplyNYC on the fund tab. The second way is to mail a check to our address (236 W 72nd St, New York, NY 10023) and making the check out to MNYBA. Please put “Multiply” and the intern’s name on the memo line.

Where will I stay?

You will live with other interns in our building on the Upper West Side in Manhattan. We are located half a block from a subway station, three blocks from Central Park, and one subway stop from Times Square.
